Summer is a good time to notice how the house performs in heat and heavy rain. Focus on comfort, safe outdoor spaces, and a plan for weather interruptions.

Support your cooling system
Follow your equipment’s manual and service recommendations. If a system struggles to cool or leaks, arrange a qualified evaluation.
- Check the recommended filter type and replacement schedule.
- Keep supply and return vents unobstructed.
- Keep landscaping away from outdoor equipment using the manufacturer’s clearance guidance.

Look over outdoor spaces
Walk decks, patios, and paths in daylight and look for issues that are easy to overlook during a gathering.
- Check for loose railings, damaged boards, and uneven walking surfaces.
- Arrange repairs appropriate to the material and condition.
- Store outdoor tools and chemicals according to their labels, away from children and pets.

Have a storm plan
Keep emergency contacts and basic supplies in a place everyone in the household knows.
- Charge portable batteries and check flashlights.
- Secure lightweight outdoor belongings ahead of severe weather.
- Use portable generators only outdoors, more than 20 feet from windows, doors, and vents; never inside a garage.

- Schedule service before an equipment issue becomes urgent.
- Recheck drainage after heavy rain.
- Make an outage plan that fits your household.

DON’T
- Block air vents with furniture.
- Run a generator indoors, including in an open garage.
- Ignore damaged outdoor electrical equipment.
